Last week we made a drive down south to see a granddaughter graduate from kindergarten. It was a wonderful time! During the graduation ceremony her teacher talked about how sweet and helpful that our granddaughter is and what an asset she was in the classroom, but we knew that already, right?…and I’m not the slightest bit biased, I promise! Anyway, that’s why you haven’t heard from me for a while. Today we are posting one of Granddaughter’s favorite dishes; something she loves to order in a restaurant and this is restaurant quality at home and you control all of the ingredients. I hope you enjoy it as much as she does.

 (makes 4 servings)

1 pound elbow macaroni
1⁄2 cup (1 stick) butter
1⁄2 teaspoon garlic powder

1 teaspoon ground mustard
1⁄4 teaspoon white pepper
1 cup milk
4 ounces shredded cheddar cheese

1. Cook macaroni according to package directions.
2. In a separate saucepan, melt the butter, then add the flour and all of the seasonings.
3. Stir until the flour/seasoning mixture soaks up all the butter and it just begins to brown.
4. Slowly add the milk and stir until the sauce begins to thicken.
5. Add the cheese and stir with a whisk until it melts and combines with the sauce.
6. Add the cooked and drained macaroni and serve immediately.
